What is Medsage?

Medsage is a smart medication dispenser and companion app that helps people take the right medication at the right time — and lets family caretakers check in remotely.

Proper automatic dispensers can easily run into the thousands of dollars. Medsage is the low-cost alternative for families doing things a little closer to home: a parent with early dementia, a loved one who forgets doses, anyone who needs a nudge and a safety net — without moving them into a facility.

What the device is

• A countertop unit with a 7-inch color touchscreen — no tiny buttons, no cryptic blinking lights. Everything happens on the screen with large, readable text.
• 8 medication compartments to organize doses.
• A built-in speaker for audible medication alerts, with a choice of alert sounds (or your own audio file from an SD card).
• WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, set up from your phone in a couple of minutes.
• Optional built-in camera used for refill audit recordings (stored locally on the device’s SD card).

What it does

1. Reminds — at each scheduled dose time, the device plays an alert sound and shows a full-screen “Time for your medication” prompt.
2. Confirms — the patient taps one big ”✓ Medication Taken” button. If they don’t respond within a caretaker-set window, the dose is recorded as missed.
3. Notifies — caretakers get a push notification on their phone when a dose is confirmed or missed.
4. Tracks — every event is recorded, so you can review adherence history in the app at any time.

It also handles the messy parts of real life: after a power outage, the device works out which doses may have been missed and asks the patient about them directly (see “What happens after a power outage?”).

Who it’s for

• Patients — the device is designed to be used without ever touching a phone or computer. No login, no app required for the person taking the medication.
• Caretakers — family members or professionals manage schedules and monitor adherence from the Medsage mobile app, from anywhere. One patient can have multiple caretakers.

What Medsage is not

Medsage is an adherence aid, not a medical device that makes clinical decisions. It never advises on dosages or drug interactions — those questions belong with your doctor or pharmacist.
