Getting started

Getting started: setting up your Medsage device

Setting up a new Medsage device takes about five minutes with the Medsage mobile app.

What you’ll need

  • The Medsage device, plugged in.
  • A phone with the Medsage app installed, Bluetooth turned on.
  • Your home WiFi name and password (for the recommended “Remote” mode).

Step by step

  1. Plug in the device. On first boot it shows a welcome screen with a QR code and the message “Scan the QR code with the Medsage mobile app to set up this device automatically.”
  2. In the app, open Settings → “Set Up New Device”. This opens the QR scanner — point your camera at the device’s screen.
  3. The app connects over Bluetooth. Medsage devices advertise as MEDSAGE_ followed by six characters (e.g. MEDSAGE_A1B2C3), and the app finds yours automatically from the QR code.
  4. Who is this for? Pick “Myself”, or choose one of your patients if you’re setting the device up as a caretaker.
  5. Name the device. Something friendly like “Mom’s Bedroom”.
  6. Choose connectivity. “Remote” (WiFi + cloud) is the default and enables remote monitoring and notifications. Other options: Local WiFi, Bluetooth-only, or Standalone (no network).
  7. Enter WiFi credentials (Remote and Local WiFi modes only).
  8. Pick the device’s timezone — this is what dose schedules run on.
  9. Set a 4-digit caretaker PIN. This protects the device’s settings; the patient never needs it.
  10. Review and tap “Setup Device”. The app writes the configuration over Bluetooth, the device saves it and restarts, and you’re done — the app returns to your patient list.

Prefer not to use a phone? Tap “Setup Manually” on the device’s welcome screen to run the same wizard directly on the touchscreen.

After setup

  • Add medication schedules in the app (see “Managing medication schedules”).
  • The device shows a short instructional video after its first setup.
  • Additional caretakers can be added at any time (see “Patients and caretakers”).
