Firmware updates

Medsage devices keep themselves up to date — safely.

Automatic updates (default)

With the “Automatically keep up to date” setting on (and the device on WiFi), the device checks for updates around 3 AM local time, at most once per day.

Two safety rules apply:

  • It never updates if a medication alarm is scheduled within the next 2 hours. An update will not get between a patient and their dose.
  • Updates are cryptographically verified (SHA-256) before installing.

Update progress is reported to the cloud, so caretakers can see it in the event log.

Manual updates on the device

A caretaker can update on demand from the device: Settings → Update → “Check for Updates”, then Download and Install. The screen shows progress (“Installing… 42%”). An update can also be installed from an SD card for devices without a network connection.

Turning automatic updates off

The auto-update toggle lives in the device’s caretaker settings. We recommend leaving it on — updates carry reliability and security fixes — but standalone or cautious deployments can update manually instead.
