What happens at dose time

The alert

At each scheduled time the device:

1. Plays an alert sound through its speaker — a beep pattern, a siren pattern, or a custom sound loaded from an SD card (caretaker’s choice, with adjustable volume).
2. Shows a full-screen prompt: a bell icon, “TIME FOR YOUR MEDICATION”, and the scheduled time in large text.
3. Shows one big button: ”✓ Medication Taken”.

The patient takes their dose and taps the button. That’s the whole interaction — the sound stops and the confirmation is recorded (including how long it took them to respond).

Missed doses

If the patient doesn’t confirm within the miss timeout, the dose is recorded as missed, the alert stops, and caretakers are notified. The timeout is a caretaker setting on the device: 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes — or “Never”, which keeps alerting until confirmed.

Optional check-ins after a dose

A dose event can be chained with two kinds of quick on-screen check-ins:

• Wellness check — “How are you feeling?” on a 1–5 scale, with the option to say a few words out loud (the device transcribes them for the caretaker).
• Lucidity check — a few gentle orientation questions: simple arithmetic, repeating digits, what time or day it is.

Results are recorded as events that caretakers can review — a lightweight daily signal about how someone is really doing, not just whether they took a pill.

Remote confirmation

A caretaker who is with the patient (or on the device’s network) can also confirm a dose on the patient’s behalf from the app; the event records that it was confirmed remotely rather than on the touchscreen.
